Malice is the name given to the dark messiah of the Sepharian religion. He is said to be infused with the power of all evil, even greater than his ancestor, Sepharon, the first demonic prophet. A son was born of Jherideth Petris, a priest of the Black Order who claimed to share lineage with Sepharon, thus baptizing the child in blood under the name of Malice. The Black Order has since been corrupted, along with most other large organizations in the city of Valdor, as a result of the rule of Lord Regent Darius Jackal. He was once no more than an aristocrat, but was selected to rule in the place of Arianne Raynor, who went missing under mysterious circumstances. Many nobles are seeking to wed Jackal, and it looks as if Liana Riddlis will be the suitor he chooses. Meanwhile, the city is falling apart, with all magic strictly outlawed and many groups of thieves and assassins coming into power. Cults and covens hide in the shadows. Witches conduct demonic rituals while children are ripped from their mother's breast if suspected of magical blood by the City Watch. Malice may be the only hope that the city of Valdor has left. Are the prophecies about him true? Can he save the city, or is he nothing more than another source of darkness that plagues it?
