Sometimes the biggest threats are family. James, a soon-to-be high school graduate and ranking member of the locally known outcasts, is about to take the next step in his life. Reflecting on his past leading up to this, he regretted not doing what every other high schooler seemed to do, from constant partying and experimenting with drugs, but what he deemed most important-having a relationship. That one person who would be my brightness in the dullest of days (trust me, there were a lot) just by gracing me with his presence. The frown that was permanently etched on my face would always seemingly dissipate into the happiness I felt when we'd meet up, running into his arms like he was my safe place.
