You know that little bubble of panic that rises in your stomach whenever you forget to study for a test or an important basketball game is about to start? It seems like the end of the world at the time but when you get through it, your bubble of nerves seems like a silly thing that simply got in your way.
For Annise, this feeling is a foreign one. When on a vacation with her parents and best friend she thinks there's not a care in the world. Then a storm hits and her entire world seems to crumble before her. The unknown feeling most people face everyday threatens to swallow her whole as the anticipation she must suffer through grows heavier on her chest.

Avery wrapped an arm around my waist to catch me before I could get out the door. He pushed me up against the door, trapping me between his body and the door. "What's wrong?" I asked innocently. His face hovered over mine, much closer than I was used to. His gaze didn't leave mine as he spoke. "It would have been different if I had told him from the start. You wanted me to lie for you. You started this. If we tell him what really happened, he would be pissed at me for lying to him." "Stormie, you got a phone call!" Mason yelled up the stairs. The closeness between Avery and me started to make my legs feel like Jell-O, and I couldn't make sense of it. Our breathing became heavier. His eyes trapped mine. "Answer him," Avery murmured. "Uh," I stammered. I cleared my throat. "Be down in a minute!" My voice came out higher than usual. My gaze still couldn't escape Avery's. My heart raced wildly as his chest rose and fell against mine. Avery's gaze flickered to my lips. What's happening? My gaze fell to his mouth, which was moving closer to mine. My eyes lingered on him, His dominant figure, with piercing dark brown eyes that seemed to see right through me, His tall imposing frame exuded power and confidence, drawing any girl vulnerable enough to fall for him in like a moth to a flame. With each glance, each commanding gesture, he sent me teetering over the edge.. His black hair was gorgeous and messy. The tattoos that adorned his arms told stories of a life lived on the edge, the piercings, the scars, adding to his allure (TW heavy smut of an older man and idealizing age-gap relationships)
