Mags lives with her adoptive parents, Kay and Sven, in a cottage by Richmond Fortress near Suffolk. Kay's family has worked there for generations, taking care of it even though no one lives there permanently.
But one day, a knight and his young wife moves in alongside with their baby son, two nephews and a niece, causing unforeseen consequences for Mags. 
Will the fort remain the same despite the new inhabitants?
