Two seconds of creating this account and I've already entered the February writing challenge. A challenge about love, which I know nothing about. Sure, why not?
This is a story about Audacity Donovan, a woman who travels the multiverse and Dain Darby, a general who commands the King's army against the demons that plague his world. The two met when Audacity traveled to Dain's world to learn about magic and they enjoyed what was supposed to be a brief fling.
Perhaps it was the way that Dain took himself too seriously at times or the way his humor, which was as dry as sun-bleached sand, suddenly struck like a snake but Audacity can't seem to get him out of her mind. She can still recall every detail of his face, which isn't handsome but rather resembles an old, cracked dagger; pitted, creased and filled with an extraordinary story.
Like most people with a secret, Dain doesn't know how to let go of someone he absolutely trusts. When he had revealed himself to her, he knew he had placed his life in her hands. However, the strange redhead with a pixie face and silly sense of humor had turned out to be his staunchest ally and closest friend as she had guarded his secret as if it were her own. For a dragon hiding out in human form in a land that hated dragons, Audacity's loyalty was worth more than all the King's riches.
Duty has separated the two. Audacity is on a mission to save her home world from complete destruction while Dain has sworn to defend his world from demons. Neither one can forsake their responsibilities, but neither one can quite forget the feelings that grew during their dalliance.
As Claire aims to leave her oppressive stepfamily behind, she befriends Zion. Will he be her ticket to freedom or a distraction in achieving her dreams?
