I felt a cold summerbreeze against my cheeks while gazing up the clear night sky. Sounds of crickets and her breathing filled the silence. I lost the battle of resisting her body heat, and decided to move a bit closer to warm myself up. The sound of her giggling was added up to the other sounds and my eyes were pulled towards her eyes. I felt my blood rushing to my head and my heartbeat rising.
"Hey, " she said with a small grin on her face. "what are you thinking about?"
My brains weren't working at their full potential, and I wondered if it would be okay to use a cheesy line, or if silence would do fine. After a few seconds, I decided to go with the cheesy line. "You." I said.
Not much of a line when you think about it, I thought to myself. I wanted to hit myself as soon as the word slipped out of my mind, but it seemed to work just fine and an even bigger smile appeared on her face.
She slightly tilted her head and continued: "Sooo, what am I thinking about?"
I had to search for the right words again, but I couldn't say what she wanted to hear. Wouldn't it be egoistic? So this time; I did anwser with silence.
"What is it?" she whispered, playfully teasing me.
I still didn't know what to say, so I gave in and anwsered "Me."
"Can you say it again?" She pouted her lips and added "Pretty please?"
And I gave in. Again. I let out a sight, as if I had a problem with it, and repeated "Me."
She gave me a proud smile and we both bursted into laughing. Trying to fetch my breath, I bursted out "Silly". Silence came back and our faces moved even closer, so close that I could feel her breathing on my face. It was as if even the crickets fell silent and my heart was about to burst out of my chest. Our lips touched and the burning sensation of adrenaline and endorfines spread through my whole body.
The minutes felt like days, and the days felt like years. I had to learn later on that nothing lasts forever.
When a bachelor-style reality show centered around finding this year's Mrs. Claus comes to Charlie's small town, she is vehemently against the attention it brings, yet in the chaos of it all, somehow finds herself in the running as a contestant... and falling in love.
*****
In the weeks before Christmas, Charlie Duncan's small town finds itself the backdrop to the hit new reality show, Finding Mrs. Claus. And to spice up the drama, a handful of locals are thrown into the casting mix, including not only Charlie, but her best friend Ellie as well. While Charlie does everything she can to get tossed off the show (to no avail), and watches skeptically as Ellie truly begins to open up her heart, she can't help but feel a certain spark for the man behind the scenes - the show's producer, Noah Cyrus.
