Arina has been independent and responsible all throughout her childhood. Her wit heavily matched that of her father's, Edward Scheen, CEO of a 5-star resort in Boston. Arina's brother, Evan, is spunky and playful, with a lighthearted outlook on life. He treats the world as a joke, and has no perception of responsibility. Evan takes after his mother, Evelyn. Evelyn abandoned the Scheen family when Arina was 7 and Evan was 10, because, according to Evan, she refused to settle for a life committed to a stone-faced, cold-hearted man like Edward. Despite Edward's seriousness, he favored his only son over his responsible daughter. - - 15 years later, Arina is 22, attending MIT. Evan's 25, and still lives with their father. Edward is close to retirement age now, and looking to pass his position to one of his children. Arina wants that job more than anything, but Evan does too. Arina is determined to prove to her father that as a woman she is just as, if not more than capable of taking over the resort-if only he would let her try.
