Mac Stephens' last birthday was spectacular, for all the wrong reasons.

Being unceremoniously dumped with no explanation and then fired from a job she actually enjoyed on the same day that she turned thirty, was enough to send her running straight back home and into the arms of her adoring father.

But that was six months ago, and it's time she moved on.

Mackinley River Downs has been in the Stephens family for generations, however, it's now also part of a government investigation and Felix Anderson, the broodingly handsome resident manager is forced to do the one thing he swore he'd never do, ask the owner for help.

In a dodgy hotdog induced delirium Mac agrees she owes her father a favour and takes off to the other side of the world to help save a business she knows absolutely nothing about, in surroundings she's never seen anything like before.

Sparks fly and frustrations burn on the search for common ground in unfamiliar territory.

"Here's the thing though . . ." He trails off thoughtfully and then he looks straight at me. His eyes are steely and that makes me realise the fundamental difference between the young Ryan and this Ryan. He's hardened now. The sweet boy I once knew is probably still in there somewhere but life eventually got to him and he had to toughen up. "I need someone I can rely on. I don't want to take a person on who just decides it's too much hassle a few days or weeks in and just . . . Ghosts me." He finishes. There's a definite challenge there. He's not just talking about the job. He's getting a dig in there about the way I disappeared out of his life. As well as implying I'm generally unreliable . . . ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Iona Stewart is pretty sure she's having a premature midlife crisis. Recently made redundant, permanently unlucky in love, and back living with her parents, she's desperate for a change of scenery. So when an opportunity comes up to work in a hotel in the Highlands, it seems like fate has stepped in. The problem? Her new boss is Ryan Thorne. Her former friend. Her first crush. And the boy who broke her heart nearly 17 years ago. She had no intention of ever seeing him again after that night. And it seems he isn't that keen on having *her* around either. Be prepared for nineties flashbacks, many awkward encounters, and *hopefully* a happy ever after . . . ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ❤️Second Place in the Chick-Lit category in The Pink Cloud Awards❤️ ❤️Second Place in the Chick-Lit category in The Hibiscus Awards❤️ ❤️Winner of Best Opening in Chick Lit in the Berry Pancake awards❤️ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Complete companion novella entitled "No Reservations: Ryan's Version" is now available*

"Not screwing as in ongoing. It was a one time... or two time thing," I cringe at how slutty that makes me sound. "I was a little drunk... the second time. Whatever, the details aren't important because it's not going to happen again." "Twice? Honestly Mack, I thought you were better than to fall for his shit. I've watched him churn through women, fuck em and dump em. I know he's my boss but he isn't a good guy! And you work with him too! Scarlett was one thing, but now he's got you both in his bed!" Note to self, don't tell Tristan that neither time was in a bed and we only had sex once. You know what, let's just keep the details to the bare minimum, he can fill in whatever blanks he wants to. **** Mackenzie has been living a life for everyone else, mainly her long term high school boyfriend. She doesn't seem to know who she is anymore, what she wants, or how to stand up for herself. When she starts a new job she never expected to meet people like Tristan, Scarlett and Alex. People who changed her life, encouraged her to be herself and chase her own dreams. These friendships help to heal her heart, but could they turn to something more?
