Located on the bankside of the Wesser River, in northern Germany, Alani is faced with the general teenage issues, but in the year 3033, war, illness, and half of the population missing, she finds herself tangled up in the government secrets of the river, trusting a stranger, and even the disappearance of her own mother.
In the distance I could hear them, the police and their dogs. I kept running, pushing through the pain of my burning legs, my heavy breathing. I got to the Keep Out sign of the boarder of our property and the river lining, I climbed the fence. Completely crumbling to my knees from exhaustion, once my feet splashed against the cold water, I knew I would be caught; I was only trying to scrap some food for me siblings. Ever sense the disappearance of half the humanity, living off squirrels and with scare deer, we all were starving. I had never once seen the river this close, to feel it, be immersed in the water sent chills down my spine.
I looked up at the river, I was always astonished with it, the mystery behind the ripples, why would the government want to keep us from the river, it provided the Germans with so many trades, but why now, why close it when we needed it the most? Looking at the water, it was mesmerizing. I leaned down to cup some in my hands but got pulled under, before any words could escape my mouth, ocean blue eyes radiating light caught mine.
Some love stories are meant to be simple, but theirs was anything but.
Sol never imagined that love could be something he would dread-until he crossed paths with Ember. She embodied warmth and fire, a sanctuary and a tempest, and he found himself captivated by her like a melody he never wanted to end. However, love was a concept Ember had long abandoned. The scars of her past had left her too wary to trust, too hesitant to hope.
As their lives intertwine, they discover comfort in one another, yet the very bond that unites them also threatens to tear them apart. Friendships fracture, fears emerge, and the silence of unspoken words becomes a heavy burden of regret. When the shadows of the past finally close in, they must confront a question neither is prepared to answer:
What could this be, between you and me?
A profoundly emotional and strikingly honest journey of love, loss, and self-discovery, What Could This Be, Between You and Me? is not merely a tale of falling in love-it's about learning to fight for it.
