Them

One insult. One betrayal. One accidental slip, and everything changes. Naruto leaves The Hidden Leaf Village when he's just 12 years old. Wounded and near death he questions himself and his fellow villagers, but in the end he can't blame anyone for his life's pitfalls. Cut off from the rest of the world he feels himself fading when a certain stranger asks a question he'd never thought of. His life is changed forever.

Years later a strange woman appears at the village gates. She bares an all-but-forgotten name from a people who'd supposedly gone extinct twenty years ago. The curiosity grows as connections to a long lost friend are made. Brought back from the void, Naruto reintroduces himself to the village, with a few new family members he made along the way.
