Years ago there was a machine. It was a box made up of one way mirrors. When you went in all you saw was your reflection and the light bulbs. On every side of each square mirror there was a row of light bulbs. They were a blue color, then they became purple, then white. Then they turned off. When the lights went out, you died instantaneously. The box was used on people the leaders didn't approve of. They watched you die, laughing as if someone told a funny joke. Two years after the machine was created, a man named Joshua Neil stepped into the box. He was twenty three. The king didn't like that he was a brunette. The lights changed and went off, when the lights came back on, he was gone. The king had searched for him for weeks, but he was never found. This began to happen to multiple victims of the box and finally, it was shut down for good. It was put in a museum as a memorial. Now, it is looked at as a symbol of a darker more recent past. Now, that the population is nearly gone and we are the only people alive, that's our only chance of survival. Going into the box and disappearing. How do we know it will work? Because we were born for this. We are the only ones alive and the only ones who can stop this. Whatever this is. We are the Joshua Neils' of our generation. We will go into the unknowns of the box and we will fight for our planet. The only problem is that whatever caused this was smart and isn't making it easy for us.

**COMPLETED** Several years after the world succumbed to a deadly strain of measles that turned those infected into crazed, mindless cannibals, Charlotte wanders the backroads alone, content with surviving day-to-day. That is until she crosses paths with Nate and his daughter, Emmi. Emmi is not and cannot be vaccinated against the disease, so the only way to protect her and give her some kind of life is to reunite her with her estranged mother in a quarantine zone on the other side of the country. Charlotte wants nothing to do with Nate or the girl who looks like her dead sister. She does not want to go through the grief of losing people again if something bad was to happen. And something bad does happen when Emmi is kidnapped, and it is no one's fault but Charlotte's. Through this obligation alone, Charlotte feels like it is her responsibility to get Emmi back, to right her wrong. In helping Nate pursue his kidnapped daughter, Charlotte inadvertently allows herself to feel again, to care for those other than herself. But with the clock ticking, Charlotte's new found family may just end up like her own, dead and destroyed, if Emmi is exposed to the disease that her father tried so hard to protect her from.
