Devon Dodd was just eight years old when she won a first place prize in the National Young Writers' Awards. At fourteen, she excelled so tremedously to the point where her teachers had no choice but to boost her up an academic grade, so it was no surprise to anybody when she put all her eggs in one basket by applying solely for a placement at Oxford university - the shocker came when she was rejected.

That's why four years later she's still stuck in this little tourist-trap town when all the friends she grew up with moved away to start their careers, that's why the only aspiration she'll ever truly hope for is to move out of her parents' home, and that's why nobody was really too horrified when she threw herself sideways off a cliff - tombstoning, of course - but now, that's why Devon Dodd can never leave the sea again.
