(Takes place a few years after the Bridal Dance in Bk11, just pretend that the stories after those haven't happened yet except Maddie has been born)

Ranger Will Treat of Redmont couldn't be happier. He had a job he loved to do, a boss that could be reasoned with, friends by his side, a family to call his and a woman he loved endlessly.

When Araluen is asked to enter a war to help aid one of their allying country's, Will and Halt are sent to investigate to see if it's as bad as they have been told.

Only to discover that the life Will has lived has been nothing but a lie and the truth could put him as an enemy to the country he had once called his home.

(Title belongs to John Flanagan as do most of the characters)
