But the captain of the Pequod, Ahab, is a man obsessed with hunting down the vessel which took so much from him. There are legends of his quarry, Moby-Dick: talk from spacefaring astronauts that the ship, shaped like the extinct whales of old, is no longer crewed and is run entirely off a rogue AI programme. Many lives have been lost to it. Starbuck has to confront the terror of space and the awful mania of his captain, all the while dealing with a past which will never leave him alone. He wishes desperately to do what is right. The farthest galaxies are heartless, but no more cruel than the horror that exists inside man. The icy moon is notorious for failed probe landings and research missions that end in tragedy: the only people to ever venture to its surface needed rescuing after just two weeks. When a prestigious research group decides they want a turn, they ask Alex Gallegos to lead the team. Perfectly qualified and haunted by their past, Alex accepts, hoping to make up for old mistakes and get just a little further from the earth they've left behind. Two months into the seven-month mission, the team is struggling with discontent, damaged equipment, and blizzards acting less and less like normal weather. As Mahaha moves out of range of help and the storms take on a more malicious character, Alex must face the one foe they could never have prepared for. Mahaha may or may not be alive. ❖❖❖ Complete. Ezra thought his grades would get him posted to a place in the Navy that reflected his ability, something like First Fleet, the Raiding Nine, or even Home Guard. Humanity's enemy the Preshk where attacking more often and Ezra wanted to be contributing directly to the war effort. Instead he got put on a Scout ship with just one other soul and sent on a five month mission out into deep space. The mission quickly becomes more than the young commander could have ever expected and the fate of humanity lies in how fast he can return back to humanity. This short story is just over 18,000 words and contains sexual content between two men, so If that's not your cup of tea.. don't read :) This is my first attempt at something like this, so feedback is welcome, though be nice :)

EXCERPT: Quillan slammed the accelerator to the stops. Arrowing in, her focus was wholly on the open door, her hands making minute corrections to trajectory and speed. The Hawk's Wing shot forth at more than twenty-three thousand meters per second. Either she would succeed, or she would die. No leeway. "Ship, prepare for collision. At this rate of speed, I'll pass out when we get inside. Full forward defense shields. Full cockpit buffer. Zero shields anywhere else." She felt the slight pressure increase as the cockpit's internal anti bounce buffer engaged. "Full brake!" she screamed when the targeting meter flashed red, indicating an imminent impact. Collision alarms. Door. Light. Wall. Noise. Dark. Shit. Too fast.
