dystopian life mutant solitude unisense war

I have three story lines based around one idea for a book (or series), all three are works in progress but this is the most developed.  Solitude is about a boy named Kyle living in a future that people are losing their senses (quite literally).  We find him in an orphan home at first and then watch as his world begins showing cracks around the edges. The year is 1917, and the Great War is slowly drawing to a close, but the end can't come fast enough for the two nations from the Southern Hemisphere, exhausted and ready to go home and to try to resume a normal life. Kyle knows he's close to breaking. Even hearing the name of that cursed place aloud causes him pain, and he knows Avery feels the same. Then comes that stupid smiling American, with his talk of heroes and aide. And Kyle can't help but start to feel differently about Alfred. But developing such feelings in the middle of war can be a dangerous thing.
