There was once a boy in a town called Rainmyn, who lived with a family who never loved him. Forgotten and alone, he terrorized the townspeople by playing "games" he created, all of them demonic and cruel. For sixteen years, they cursed him and begged God to strike the boy down. On September 13, 1874, the boy died playing one of his games that went terribly wrong. The boy's name was Nathan Benthly.
Over 120 years later, Danielle Forman moves into an old, abandoned mansion in Rainmyn with her big family. Warned by all to watch for Nathan, she thinks she prepares herself for his horrible games, but when Nathan teaches her how to play, she becomes lost in the worlds between 1874 and the present. He becomes the friend she could never have within her family and pulls her into an unknown place. Danielle knows she feels an attraction to Nathan in ways she doesn't understand, but can someone long passed love you back? Or is his love a trick in a game that he never intends to release her from?
