In the world, there's a dangerous game called the Hunt. Certain people are chosen to be the Hunters, and hone their Hunting skills to survive in the cutthroat world of the adults. Others, the unlucky ones, are chosen to be the Hunted. Every teenager must join the Hunt. It's a rite of passage. The Hunt doesn't end until you either win or lose. Every youth has to live their life very carefully, so as not to end up being on the Hunted side, the wrong side, which means almost certain death.
One teenager, Emeline Hayworth, has tried to hide herself away from everything and everyone else, living and learning from her everyday isolated life. She wishes to have no part in the Hunt. But when Emeline makes a big mistake, she ends up being discovered, and her mistake puts her on the wrong side. The Hunted side. Can Emeline defy her bad luck and win as the Hunted, or will she perish like the rest?

On the day of their 16th birthday they were each rejected by their mates, only to accept the rejections and shift later in the day. They run away from their packs and end up meeting with each other, and shifting into a few more things that they thought they would never be. Trying to figure out why they had the powers of the four main elements they search and find out that there are other people with powers. Just the minor ones, stuff like telepathy, ice, talking to animals. You guys know what I'm talking about. As they go on they discover who their parents are ,what they have to protect the planet from and why. When Evita starts asking questions Evelyn Sheer, the head of the city's Department of Energy, takes her captive and places her in a secret, underground research facility. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem.
