Four children-Alexei, Yulian, Etta and Ziba-live in the remote, craggy village of Aronos. An ancient collection of people who have been living in the large, impassable mountain range that rifts the continent in two, duly referred to as the Rift Mountains. They are far removed from the drama of the Eastern and Western Empires of the continent, in fact, they do not know of the two sovereigns.
The children need not worry themselves with hypothetical places that may or may not exist. No, instead they are thrilled about finally becoming adults within their community. The preparations are being made and everything is set to go well. The ceremony goes well and they enter the forest for their pilgrimage of sorts. However, something terrible is in store for them as they travel through the forest.
Nature has a funny tendency to "rain on people's parades" and that is exactly what happens to the quartet of new adults. What happens next is something quite exotic and foreign to the group. An unfamiliar queen poses an outrageous claim and the four are tossed into a royal, structured life where everything is much different. The queen and these new changes present troubles for them.
What will the children do once they are caught in the Temptress' Web?

However, when a pulse of power radiates through her country and knocks an unsuspecting Dorian and herself out, they decided to investigate the source, and postpone the greetings.
