Haiti was just a blip on the publicity radar, a briefly sympathetic moment in time. Did it truly matter to most people? To important people? No, of course not; Haiti is not a wealthy, developed country, and has few desirable natural resources. There was nothing to gain from lending a hand. That is why I chose to write about this for my class assignment "An Important Moment in History." It shows how so-called "unimportant" tragedies can be simply swept under the rug because of monetary gain, or lack thereof, and also says something about how callous our hearts have become.
