As his mother teaches him in the arts of being a young dark magician, he soon finds that fate can be a cruel thing. The fate of his mother's choices loom over their heads and there is nothing that can be done about them.

War waits for no one and Merric soon finds out the choice his mother has decided to make will change Ylisse and the outcome of the war forever.

Unless Merric chooses to rewrite them by giving up his life and soul by disobeying his mother's warnings about summoning such dark magic hexes.
