Dexter Fields is sick of the military life. He hates not being able to stay in one place for more than a month at a stretch, he hates the violence and the danger, he hates the worry on his parents' face each time he's sent off for a new assignment and most of all he absolutely hates seeing his friends drop dead in front of him. But he's finally got a break and he intends to enjoy himself the entire month and the highlight of his break is his friend Kady's destination wedding.

Dani Lyons has scars of the past she knows will never heal. She knows she's broken inside but her façade is one of brightness, cheer and good humour and she has never let that slip. Now, as bridesmaid at her best friend's wedding, her façade is at an all-time high.

But the arrival of sexy army officer Dexter Fields means that someone finally sees through Dani and isn't willing to let things go until she is laid bare- physically and emotionally. Can Dani actually overcome her old wounds and accept a new man? Or will Dexter's attempts only result in him being pushed away?
