What makes your life worth living? For nineteen year old Seraphina Blackford, it's her younger brother, Caiden. Her whole world revolves around him, what is left of the world that is. It's been three thousand years since the last technology was around and the Earth is falling apart. After The Great Break governments fell and chaos took over. After years of death and destruction, all that's left behind are small groups of people that band together in clans. Seraphina or Sera as she prefers to be called, is doing her best to protect her little brother in this dangerous world but all Caiden wants to do though is go on adventures and search for the mystical Paradise.  After a deadly attack on her home she is forced to go out in search of this fabled safe-haven to fulfill her brothers greatest wish: to find Paradise. During this quest she must enlist the help of Breccan Dolemo, an overconfident jerk who somehow got mixed up in a clan that kills for sport. Not only has he murdered but Breccan has made himself a sworn enemy of Sera's. Can they put aside their differences in order to find Paradise? Or will Caiden's life goal go on unfulfilled?

It is not long before Jago, the ruler of Saffire, learns that a woman on Saffire is pregnant and he unleashes all his power to prevent the birth. Jago will not give up power. Demalynn is surprised to find out she is the Helper, but is astounded to learn the identity of the Gravidarum. Demalynn must battle to stay alive and fumbles towards the realization that Aiden is much more than a close friend. She is certain, with the certainty that only a seventeen-year-old can possess, that Aiden is her only true love. Demalynn is desperate to find a way back home until she must make a choice: stay with Aiden on Saffire or go back home and re-unite her family. There's no place like home.
