Craёton is a planet in an alternate universe. There everyone has the ability to shift into a creature, and they are all called Xёlons.
The most powerful one are the pure blooded xёlons. Their blood is untainted by any other species and they hold great power. Half breeds on the other hand, are strong but obviously not as strong as the pure blooded xёlons.
Aёon is a Sёlger, he can't shift as yet and he has already passed the age at which he was supposed to shift. Because of this, everyone in his village, including his parents, treats him badly.
Then, one day, his parents decide to enroll in Mecros Academy, the best school in the planet. Fishy right?
But it was a great way to get him out of their household.

It was said that a child would be born of the seven realms that would possess great powers. She would be a witch and changeling alike. Any child born of two races was ordered to be eliminated to keep from having the prophecy held true. So for millennia, children of mixed births were either stolen or murdered to keep the peace. It wasn't until a baby girl was born of the King and Lady Mother of the Morgan Realm that the prophecy came true. Unknown to the covens outside the palace walls, the girl was considered human. When the child was two-years-old she was stolen from her realm and whisked off far away to the coven of Aberdeen where she was taught that of Air magick. For sixteen years this girl learned all that there were to being an Air witch, thinking that she was one after all these years. And so when her 18th birthday arrived, she ascended with the other girls of the same age, only to find out that she was different than all the others.
