There is a small town out in the middle of nowhere, with two steep cliffs on either side, a path leading to another town and a forest opposite the path. The forest is lovely and lively, with beautiful clearings and babbling brooks. But there are dangerous creatures in the forest, creatures that have terrorized the village for centuries. These creatures are dragons, and they are said to be merciless to anyone who intrudes in their forest. To keep the dragons at bay, every year the village gathers up girls ranging from ages 16 to 18 and picks the names of 4 girls to be sent into the forest to be the dragons' mates. But nothing comes without a price.

He finds the smallest of things interesting. Which, of course, leads him straight to Lucy, the social outcast. One thing leads to another, and soon, Natsu is teaching this strange girl the world of magic. They become friends rather quickly, and her unexpected actions never ceases to calm his storm of a day. Natsu realizes his feelings for her, but isn't sure how to convey them. Will he manage to get through her thick-headed personality, or will he be forever considered "just a friend"? As the characters go through their own social problems, other problems start to arise. Magic manipulation, and an old alumni threaten them as Lucy attempts to recover from her past.
