This is placed many years in the future, where the earth has started to decay, yet still very advanced in technology. America is ruled by a handful of governors. No more presidents or democracy, even freedom, that age is long gone. The only way people can live a normal age cycle is by paying once a month to be hooked up to a machine which increases their life, healing them of sickness, wounds, starvation, and everything else like the toxic fumes that are shortening their lives.
