This fanfic takes place a year before the first Hunger Games book did.
After a girl has been caught trying to run away, the Capitol decides the whole district will pay. The reaping will be moved up a week, preventing any preparation for Katniss to talk to Gale, ensuring their safety if she gets picked. Panicked, she turns to a person she'd never suspect.

The story is set during the time period of "The Hunger Games" (book one of the trilogy). It is written from the perspective of Gale Hawthorne, and does not concern any events in books two and three. This is my first fan fiction, my first "real" attempt at long form prose writing, and my first Wattpad story. I appreciate constructive feedback, but please, no hate. While the characters and some plot points are based off of Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games Trilogy, (which I in no way own the rights to) I have created this story using my own imagination.
