Hundreds of resets, only a few years. Frisk was only eight when they fell and got trapped in the infinite time loop.
On the other side of the rip, six astronauts stepped out of the Hab, which is short for habit, to abort the mission due to a sandstorm.
Frisk nearly gave up, every time they went to the surface they were forced to reset soon after.
The events of The Martian happened once before resetting, pulling it into the time loop.
And maybe getting a computer virus isn't always a bad thing, or maybe some things should just be left alone.
