The past has come back to haunt Kainak of the Pomaika'i Island jungle. An old adversary leads attacks against Pomaika'ian villages and the research expedition. Kainak must discover what the meaning of these attacks are, and if the adversary is working for someone who also happens to be bad news. Meanwhile, his aunt comes to Pomaika'i, wanting him to return to Winnipeg and take control of the family business. But his enemies want him dead first, and the temptation to go back to Canada is strong. But he is called Hero of the Jungle for a reason.
