If you were to ask around Florence, the most prosperous city in Italy, about Francis O'Dell, they would tell you he was a good man, that he was respected. But this is not how Francis felt. Francis knew that his life was envied by many and people would praise him for his art, but Francis also knew he would never be as good as Leonardo da Vinci. Francis was always jealous of Leonardo. As children, when they both were apprentices under Andrea del Verrocchio. Leonardo would always be rewarded because of his great artistic skills, among other skills as well. As hard as Francis tried to do his best, he always failed, always coming in second to Leonardo. He felt that Leonardo was never at fault and was perfect. Francis was overcome with joy when he heard that Leonardo left Florence to become court artist for Ludovico Sforza. Now, Francis would have all of Florence to himself.
