Someone is planning to summon demons from another plane and it's never a good idea to let that happen. The Guild is recruited to find this mysterious someone and stop them. A member of one of the lower tiers of Keepers, Jandric's responsibilities in this undertaking will be minimal. Sometimes though, a person is elevated to responsibility by the situation, rather than chosen to bear it. Will Jandric be strong enough?
"Tokens" was written in response to a challenge to create a magic system based on something rather unusual. I hope you enjoy it....lol. SJ

Every year, my town chooses a sacrifice for the demon that "watches over" our home. In exchange for a person from the village between the ages of 17 to 25, the demon protects our village. And because of that pact, our village is protected for the next year, under the demon's watchful eyes. No one knows what happens to those who the demon chooses, but there's a lot of theories about it. One is that the demon eats or absorbs those who are chosen - another, that it kills them. But this year, I'm the one who's chosen. I get to meet the demon I've feared since I was a child, and now that I'm 24, and am considered an adult, I could have left the village behind. But I didn't. Something inside me told me to stay. Now, I'm going to die. I just know it. I can't leave now, or run away, because the town would be unprotected for a whole year, and that's where my family lives.
