This story takes place in an alternative reality, in what is now Ireland, during an ice age (referred to as the ice curse). The story takes place in prehistoric times.
Luan is the first protector for the Tribe of the Broken Mountain ever since the ice curse ended. When she is on watch one night, she sees the development of a strange settlement. When she reports it to her pendragon, she is told that the dragon in control of the ley of the land for her area, Endellion, is possibly imprisoned here. But when she arrives to redeem the dragon, she is put through a situation she has never been in before.
Protector takes the reader through Luan's journey to save Endellion and her tribe.

Set in the world of Middle-earth, during the time of The Rings of Power, Melisane, the youngest sister of Finrod and Galadriel, unlike her sister's mind-reading abilities, possesses the divine gift of prophetic dreams, able to glimpse the future, past, and unseen realms. As a child, she was captivated by tales of dragons-creatures of wind, sky, and fire-and often dreamed of them, their power and grace haunting her thoughts. In the aftermath of the Elves' flight to Middle-earth, the loss of her brother Finrod, and Galadriel's departure to hunt Sauron, Melisane is left battling grief and feelings of abandonment. Despite her skill as a deadly commander and warrior, she struggles to find purpose, withdrawing from those who care for her as her dreams grow stronger. One fateful day, she stumbles upon a newly hatched, abandoned dragon-just as her dreams had foretold. Believing this moment signals a change in her destiny, Melisane takes the creature under her care. Concerned by her reclusive nature, Elrond, the Half-elven, and an old family friend, seeks her out and is shocked to find her raising the dragon. Agreeing to help her, he assumes she will eventually let it go, but their shared bond over the creature slowly rekindles their long-lost friendship-and something deeper. As shadows loom once again over Middle-earth, Melisane and Elrond must navigate the growing darkness, all while facing the uncertain futures that their hearts and dreams reveal. Will their newfound connection withstand the threats closing in, or will the starlight of their bond be consumed by the shadows? _ "You sleep coiled; tightly wound. Legend of the Torchbearer - Book One Most children are lulled to sleep by softly sung lullabies or the sound of snoring family members, I fell asleep to the roar of dragon-song thundering through the mountain known as Beinn Na Nathrach; named for the creatures who first made it their home. Dragons roamed the world long before men, and at their height, nobody could have foreseen their downfall. Now Beinn Na Nathrach is the last nest, and the riders of Dùn Ceò - the ancient fortress carved into the mountainside - are the crumbling remnants of a once noble and powerful sept of armies the world over. As an orphan brought up within the walls of a dragon keep, following orders and watching the riders train is as close as I'll ever get to joining their ranks. Life for me is laid out as a servant, with my place secure as the ward of one of the commanders. I can see it ahead of me; the years of mucking out stables, fetching food, mending clothes and equipment, when all my heart aches for is to know how it feels to see wings stretched out either side of me. Yet the monotony of life is shaken when a hatchling is found in the forest, and rumours of rebellion in the most Northern villages begin to spring up. But why would a few unruly farmers require an entire contingent of well-armed soldiers who seem overly interested in the goings on in Dùn Ceò? If the hatchling didn't come from the last known nest, where did he come from? And what does it have to do with a legend told as a bed time story?

WATTYS SHORTLIST 2018 The heart desires the unreachable. A rare creature born of Middle Earth must undo the damage of her predecessor, who helped forge the Dark Lord's Ring of Power. Amidst her mental and physical weaknesses, she is challenged to become a warrior. If not, endless lives will be corrupted and extinguished. What is the key to defeating the shadows that threaten Middle Earth as well as the darkness that intends to smother her soul? Mirkwood is no exception to the kingdoms that are threatened by the Shadow. Instead of sailing to the undying lands, King Thranduil remains, creating a rift between him and Legolas, who stands against his father's pride and what appears to be insensibility. As he journeys with the Fellowship to destroy the Ring of Power, he begins to peel the layers of the mystery surrounding Mirkwood and himself - a mystery that draws him closer to the maiden that travels with them. The earthborn must sacrifice all to fulfill her destiny - desires for a peaceful life, family, fellowship, and love. Will those she journeys with encourage her selfless intentions, or will they challenge her being and all that she desires? Uncover the secrets of Mirkwood, witness the earthborn's battle, and discover the element of the heart. ***I do not own or have any affiliation with J.R.R.
