Kayla Maxwell has been one of Monica Geller's best friends since pre-school. Although not a fan of her other best friend, Rachel Green, she tolerated her for Monica's sake. Then high school ended, and Rachel, much to Kayla's content, went to peruse the rich, daddy's girl life she was always meant to, and her and Monica moved in together. They extended their friend group, which consisted of their ex-room mate Phoebe, Monica's brother Ross, and their across-the-hall neighbors Joey and, an old friend of Ross's, Chandler.
Everything was great, until, as usual, Rachel had to come and ruin everything. After leaving her fiancé at the alter, with nowhere left to go, she runs into the crew at their favorite coffee place "The Central Perk" where she so politely invites herself to live with Kayla and Monica. But, as it turns out, Rachel isn't all bad...
She can help Kayla with her head-over-heels crush on Joey Tribbiani.
"You're different from what I expected," she said softly.
"How so?" he asked, glancing at her.
"I don't know," she replied, searching for the right words. "You just... have this way of making people feel like they matter. Even here, in this... nightmare."
He was quiet for a moment before responding. "You matter, Y/n. Don't forget that."
