Lydia Morgenstern Herondale has grown up in Alicante her entire life, her training her main priority. Her parents Clary and Jace Herondale have kept her in the safe environment that is Idris for as long as they could, trying to keep her away from the awful fate they lived through. However, when mysterious patterns among mundanes seeing through the glamour start piquing the interest of the Clave, they send Clary and Jace, along with Lydia, to the very place they've been trying to keep Lydia away from; The New York Institute. She takes it well, considering the Lightwoods were coming back to the institute as well, and their daughter Allison has been her best friend since birth. That is, until she gets there and meets the other newest member; Stiles Starkweather.
While Lydia and her newest friends eavesdrop on the hushed conversations of their parents and discover ultimately dangerous new things, history repeats itself as the younger shadowhunters find themselves holding the safety of their world in their hands.
As Stiles and Lydia slowly start to fall deeper into love, Allison finds herself becoming alarmingly close with Scott McCall, the appointed alpha to the New York pack. Everything starts to get hazy as new runes are drawn and new alliances are formed. With visiting old friends and new relationships, how will Lydia be able to separate training from reality?
How will she even be able to survive?

This happens after the city of heavenly fire.(In the Mortal Instruments series) She walks in gracefully and says with so much venom, that I flinch, "Sit down and listen." I obey, sensing a very wrong and dangerous vibe from her. She continues, "I am Ms. Smith but you will call me madam." I reply, "And I am Clar-" "I know who you are if not why would I have summoned that demon to kidnap you," she interrupts, glaring at me. I am shocked, why would this lady kidnap me. I am completely perplexed. She must have seen it on my face because she says, "You killed Jonathan Morgenstern when all he did was love you. I HATE YOU. If you weren't there he would have loved me. Now I will take your loved ones away from you." I am just about to reply when she sends electrifying green sparks towards me which make me lose consciousness. When I finally up she says, "I have cursed you. When you leave this house it will be the day of your sixteenth birthday again but this time Simon won't remember you and neither will your other friends especially your lover, Jace.
