Nagito and I both escape into the real world. The destruction that we, the ultimate despairs caused was almost unbearable but we set out on a mission together to create a new future for the world, a new type of hope. Together we will bring a new kind of light to the world, and live together forever!

Hope's Peak Academy, a school that scouts students from across the country in search of talent. The ones accepted into the school are known as Ultimates. The Ultimate Yakuza, the Ultimate Mechanic, the Ultimate Princess; anything goes. 17 High School students were picked in the next batch to attend the school. They all believed they'd graduate and leave with their futures set up for them. But things don't quite go as planned. All of them are now trapped on an island with no easy escape, forced into a killing game by a psychotic teddy bear. The only way to win is through betrayal. This weighs heavily on everyone. But throughout the chaos, there is a flicker of hope for two participants. Y/N L/N and Mikan Tsumuiki. The Ultimate Mortician and the Ultimate Nurse. The boy that keeps to himself and the girl that apologizes for everything. The two of them couldn't be more different from each other. Y/N prefers to be away from others, Mikan wants to finally have friends. Realistically, the two could never bond. But by some miracle, a connection begins to form between them. A connection formed by a shared pain. The pain of the past. Pasts they can't forget. Pasts that shaped them into who they are today. Pasts they think they'll never move on from. The future has always looked bleak for them. But as their connection begins to strengthen, they begin to think otherwise. Just maybe, these two broken souls can heal each other. It's corny, but your goal is of pure in intention after all, and the people at this school are all just as nice in some way. You believe with all of your heart that there is hope AND love for everyone. Nagito Komaeda however, would beg to differ. He's having trouble believing that and he doesn't feel like he's worth the effort. You want to help him as much as you can so he knows he's loved too, and so he can feel true happiness from loving himself back as well. What starts out platonic becomes a romantic story that runs into the threads of deep despair with only a shred of hope to hang onto. What happens when things become just a little more complicated than a high school romance was meant to be? Will you succeed at winning his heart that you didn't know you were chasing after? Will you and Chiaki be able to save your friends? Will Nagito be able to save you? . . . This book takes place during the Despair Arc and later books continue in chronological order of the series installments.
