Recent technology advancements and a decline in human reproduction has led to this, The OTML: One True Match locator. Necklaces given to a child at birth, were programmed for that specific child and were to not be removed at all cost. When a child is born he or she receives half of a unique shape and some where out in the world, someone else receives the other half of that shape. As the child grows older, the necklace will either get colder or hotter. The farther away you were from the person, the colder was the piece of metal, the age of 16 usually being around the time where the necklace would start to heat up or not. It was a requirement to search for your "soul mate" before the age of 25, the most fertile age for a woman, 27 at the utmost latest. Some compared it to the stories of werewolves and their "mates", the person with the other half was your match for life.
Brittany loved it.
There was no chance for heartache and sorrow filled days. She loved that in the entire world there was one person, who was her other half. She winced thinking about the poor guy who got stuck with her geeky self. But he was her perfect match, the peanut butter to her jelly, the straw to her berry, the apple to her pie, so somehow their match would be perfectly balanced. Brittany's world comes crumbling down when she finds out her perfect match . . . Isn't so perfect after all. Ryder Gray probably spent more time in the local jail house then he did at school. While Brittany was shy and quiet, Ryder always bought the rebel out in her. Ryder never shied away from teasing her and with a sharp tongue, Brittany fired back. When he left during freshman year to go to Military school, Brittany nearly cried in joy. So imagine her surprise when she finds him eating her chocolate (in her house!), wearing that god awful smirk. A bigger surprise was the hot tingly feeling her necklace gave her when she set sights on Ryder. Oh no!
