Germany, Berlin. 1538 It was a cold morning in Germany. Christmas was in 3 days and all the children were excited to get their presents. It was a day where everyone was putting up their Christmas trees, making cookies, and wrapping presents. Children inside making hot cocoa with their parents and singing many songs. The only person that was outside was Nalani. She was 9 years old. She was outside crying because her parents died from a fire and she had nowhere to go. She was sitting in the snow screaming for her parents. Her mother asked her to go fetch some firewood for their fire but when she came back the house was on fire. She saw her parents on fire dying inside but the door was locked. She felt hopeless and couldn't help them. All she could do was scream for them. Every person that came by tried to help her but she screamed for them to go away. She felt her heart crumble away and die inside of her. Once she fell asleep on the snow something picked her up. It was a bird. Not just any bird, an angel. Wait, it was a human with wings. It was a boy with beautiful wings. She didn't know where they were going but all she saw was a bright light and him.

February 7th 2009 I couldn't take my eyes off the fire. No. I tried to yell. But words wouldn't come. I didn't see what caused the fire all I knew was my parents were both in there. And David. I reminded myself reluctantly. David. My best friend, my brother. He and I used to do everything. When I was five we prmoised each other that we'd die together, holding hands without a tear of regret. That's David, always so brave. I just never thought it would come to this. I stood eyeing the flames swallow my family. I took a gulp of air and relaxed my muscles. I blocked out the sirens and the cries and the sound of fire blazing. I was ready. I would face death with David without a tear of regret. I walked towards the flames. That was the last thing I remembered before I died. Jude has lost everything. Her family, her home and her life. After giving up so many times she meets Alex Orgesu, mysterious, creepy and totally gorgeous. What happens when two broken teens start to heal each other?
