Briar Matthews is leaving her hometown of Mossley for dark, Guthram Falls. Guthram Falls is filled with black eyed pale immortals, and of course, Briar is no coward. She attends college, and makes friends with a few good immortals.
Briar is not your typical human. She's not afraid of anyone, yet she is the teachers pet and follow every rule. She'll drink, and before you know it, she'll cry about her grades. But will someone change her for the worse? Or for the better?
Then she meets one of her housing roommates, Spencer. He's handsome, but yet rude, conceited and greedy. She always try's to talk to him, but he keeps his distance. Briar figures out that he's not what he seems. Is he really the Spencer everyone thinks he is?
Then she sees another man at a party, Maxwell. He's also handsome, but not conceited and rude, at first. Not even after a day, Max knows he likes her. He knows he needs to get to know her and protect her from the darkness in Guthram Falls. But yet Briar has this tall, dark haired man, Spencer on her mind. When ever He sees her, she is the Angel, the perfect human. But he, he is the darkness. He wants to get to know her, she wants to get to know him, but how can they? But what's meant to be? Darkness and the light? Or the light and another light? To make things even more complicated, will the Kafele family, the first ever vampires, tear Briar and her friends, and family apart? Or Bring them closer? Will they make Briar become one of them?
Soon enough, Maxwell, Spencer and Briar are recruited by the Kafele's, but Spencer and Briar are paired together for a mission, Maxwell, well, he's on his own, traveling to the Kafele's home. Briar finds out information that really startles her. What is that information?
Ironically the one time Brielle tries to commit to a man for the long haul, he both cheats on her, rips open a terribly deep emotional wound and leaves her alone in a irreversible situation that she must navigate through. By herself.
if she explained it, Many understandably wouldn't know what to do in her predicament.
Brielle knows she cant just stand idly. so she focuses on trying to become the woman she's been told (and at one point was certain) she wasn't capable of ever being. all whilst swearing off male companionship; after all that is what got her in this mess in the first place. it's a headache she's sure she doesn't need and she makes that clear to any man that even tries to pursue her in any type of way.
so for the life her she cant figure out why her boss's irresponsible nephew, Milan, keeps sliding himself in her life at every corner. Sure, hes a talented photographer that's built an impressive career for himself. But in his personal life He's fickle, terribly carefree and a bed hopping- silver tongued- ladies man that can be hard to get a hold of when needed most.
However she'd be lying if she said she didn't enjoy the extra strobe of light he tended to bring into her otherwise dark life.
But Brielle will soon realize, that becoming more attached to Milan as he is now will leave her right back if not in worse, condition than any man had ever left her in before. And that's not something she can quite afford.
