"I believe there is so much more to you than you care to tell." I locked eyes with his, desperate for an answer. Desperate for anything.
His jaw tightened with frustration.
"Do you know, Jane, that there are some... things that are just meant to be forgotten?" His eyes darkened a shade.
I faltered as we watched each other in a maddening silence. I realized he looked at me in an intense fascination, wanting to piece me apart and then back together as if I were some complex puzzle, wanting to solve the most difficult parts of me.
Except it was I who was trying to solve a puzzle. Because that was exactly what he was; a puzzle too complicated to solve.
