"My name is Bria Masterson. I'm sixteen years old. I live in Sundial, Colorado. I fight evil spirits that feed on souls and lurk in the ground. I'm slowly deteriorating to nothing..." Bria Masterson liked to stay low on the social grounds of her school; the place was teeming with Barbies and douchebags. Bria's best friend is Cole Hastings, an unfairly attractive popular boy with a smooth mouth and fantastic jawline. Bria has a hopeless crush on the most loved person in the entire school: Camden Gardner, a major athlete and academic genius. So far, Bria's life has had minimal extreme mishaps. When kids start getting sick in the masses, people begin to worry worry. Bria, Cole, and Camden happened to be lucky enough to be out of Sundial before the whole town went under quarantine and locked down. The three teens meet Kato and Ben when Cole's truck breaks down in the middle of the pine forest. The strangers are hunters, after only one thing: the destruction of Dark Gaia. Five teens survive in the mountains, fending off the dark spirits, unsure of the next outbreak. If they don't find out where the corrupt spirits are coming from quick enough, Dark Gaia will awaken and ensure the falling apart of Earth.
