Tomoe paused but didn't look up from his work. "I wouldn't have been able to protect you properly if you had gone with him."

She blushed, embarrassed at how childish he made her sound. "I can take care of myself, you know," the woman replied with irritation. "I'm not a kid anymore, Tomoe."
