A story for anyone who wanted the lovely John Standring to have a future. I wrote this to lay some ghosts after watching Sparkhouse (more than once!) and feeling like I needed closure on what happens next.

12 parts Complete Mature

A 'sequel' to the TV drama 'Sparkhouse' - a modern retelling of Wuthering Heights by Sally Wainwright. Carol Bolton grows up with an abusive father, by whom she has a daughter, Lisa, who is passed off by the family as her sister. When her childhood sweetheart Andrew’s, parents find out they are planning to elope, his father, the local doctor reveals the secret and Andrew jilts her at the altar. After Carol’s mother leaves the family for another man and her father’s behaviour worsens, Carol also leaves, taking Lisa with her. Returning to Sparkhouse Farm some years later, she discovers her father gravely ill and Andrew living back in the area with his pregnant wife. When Carol’s father dies she is in danger of losing the farm but kindly farmhand, John Standring, who has a soft spot for Carol and an inheritance to invest agrees to a marriage of convenience. Andrew’s obsession with Carol spirals out of control, even after the birth of his baby son, and when Carol goes ahead with her marriage to John and tells Andrew to leave them alone, he goes to the dilapidated barn where they used to meet as teenagers and kills himself. The story picks up the morning after his death, when John and Lisa have found Carol at the barn...
