The word vestigial essentially means something like unused, or more specifically, no longer needed but kept due to evolution.
Amelia Berton has a strange genetic quirk. She is descended from birds. Or, well, one particular bird.
Somehow, some owl DNA got into her bloodline. It's never made much of a difference, though.
Until Amelia is exposed to gamma radiation, causing her cells to mutate.
She now has a pair of vestigial wings. Great. They're useless.
Or are they?

A fat rat scurried across my path, damn thing scared the sh*t out of me. My heart pounding I looked down watching for the rat as I left the alley and not paying attention to my surroundings. I walked straight into someone. Mumbling my apologies while I step to the left of him. He stepped with me. Excusing myself I tried to move to the right of him, he followed me again. But everything they tell him to do, Nora says the opposite. Everything they say, Nora hints that they're lying to him.
