THANKS 5th WAVE FRANCHISE] 500 or so years ago, Ekaterina Voyna had a somewhat normal life, she wrote poetry, had an unusually close relationship with her French teacher, had many people she shared mutual hatred with, etc. In fact, she was so preoccupied with her lonely, little life that she hardly noticed the international tension between the US and ISIS and how they both had hydrogen bombs ready to be deployed at a moments notice.
At the same time, Ekaterina's older brother, Alexei Voyna, was deployed in space for three years with several other men to test the effects space (and particularly the moon) had on different races.
