Under a stormy winter sky, moonlight guides my steps as my paws crunch the forest floor. A strange sound breaks the silence. Picking up pace, I'm drawn to a hidden bundle beneath a holly bush. Inside, a baby looks up, tears halted by curiosity. Unsure of its origin, I shift to my human form, cradling it. Warm and content, the child babbles, eyes full of wonder. Shifting back, I carry the tiny bundle safely to my castle.

Stumbling through the woods he flapped his useless wings as he went, desperately trying get liftoff, to outdistance the angry presence behind him, yelling insults and threats. His talons dig into the ground as he runs, dislodging dirt and giving his followers a clear trail to follow. He's pretty sure he's lost way too many of his golden and brown feathers to be able to fly but he can't help trying, because he knew if he could attain flight, he would zip away and leave this life behind.

Sprawled out on the ground covered head to toe in bright blue paint wasn't exactly how I envisioned the first day of my last year at high school playing out yet here I am. I suppose it was hopeful thinking, presuming that everything would just roll on by smoothly and I'd be able to just survive this year unnoticed by everyone especially considering half the school was grouping around me with their phones held out snickering and filming like I was born to be a jester. And just when I thought it couldn't possibly get any worse Micah Holt, the schools quarterback, the most popular kid on the block and the next Alpha of the Crescent Pack in which we reside stumbled upon me.

Why? Do I at least get a number or something?" I asked panicked, trying to hide my hurt. "I'm sorry.... Goodbye...." that's all he said before slipping out the door and disappearing for possibly ever....
