"Matthew, you can't back out of this! You swore on it, remember?!" I yelled, my voice cracking painfully, tears streaming down my face. 

He shook his head turning away, but I grabbed his sleeve desperately.

"You promised..." I whispered feebly, trying to hold on to him like it was my life's worth.

"Autumn," he said softly, and I looked up. 

"Yeah?" I asked quietly. 

"Promises are meant to be broken," he said, ripping his arm away from my grasp, leaving me in a shocked and saddened state. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be.
