Kara Hall, sixteen, starving for food and attention wants to find a way out of her life, despite the fact that her older brother Lucas still loves her, and her younger brother, Jaiden still wears diapers. Kara feels worthless and her only hope for peace is to step in front of that train while it whizzes past the train station. The only problem with following through with her plan is the fact that she will be leaving her brothers. Can she really do that? Anthony knows what it's like to live in poverty, to grind for a few dollars only to buy food for someone else, and to watch the ones you love grow apart and corrupt your dream of safety. Anthony instantly draws closer to Kara, even though she wants nothing to do with him. As their relationship grows, Kara starts to see the good in people again. She starts to find hope.
