This was another short story piece I did for a university assignment; we had to analyze '8 Mile' written by Scott Silver and take any inspiration from this story - whether it be a character, a scene, a sentence - and create our own story to either expand on '8 Mile' with a version of the story from another character's perspective, or the same characters but in a different environment, etc. - you get the picture. We were given the structure of '8 Mile' and allowed essentially total freedom. I chose to write the story from a female point of view - analyzing how if Jimmy Smith was a woman, how would the circumstances have changed. What would a woman's story be if she were to be stuck within Jimmy's environment; how her choices would differ, how her life would be altered, how she would even think, with the impediment of her social status affecting all decisions. The choice of grammar and style of writing was fully intentional, I found it was an excellent way of allowing the reader to delve deeply into the character's mind - what she was thinking and how she was thinking; it also forces the reader directly into her life, seeing her world the way she does, feeling about it the way she does, becoming a ghost as easily as she does. I hope you enjoy, and, as always, feel free to leave feedback. xx H *Note: Cover image: 'Fear of the dark' by Federico Bebber*All Rights Reserved
