The Crosses We Bear

O, this is the black fog that
creeps around the brain in the absence of hope.
The lights flicker and then fade into the growing darkness.
The feeling of that long forgotten dream dances in your memory
and then slips away on fresh waves of carelessness.
For indeed, love must die
and all concerns will fade into the dusk
as the dust settles on the newly treaded earth.
