I've been serving the USMC for 5 years. I only see my family twice a year but I can finally go home for good unless I sign up again. During my last assignment I lost my best friend, Alex, in a gun fight. I mean what is war without lost. He had a wife and child unlike me he didn't have to take the bullet for me. I should be 6 ft under not him. I tried to forget but the memory isembedded in my mind forever.
Flash back
We've been sitting outside the enemies territory for the last 2 hours waiting for the command. "You know after this we can go home and be with our families." Alex said smiling at the thought of that. "Yeah man I finally get to see your family in person and my little niece in person. I thought you were a little scared of me meeting you're family." I joked and our whole team starts laughing.
The radio statics as the command post sends us our orders.
"Bravo , Bravo, This is November 3-1 get ready to attack 2-3 over." Command said as we all gathered our weapons.
"Alright guys let's make this quick. CHeck up on ammo and explosives. If we hurry we can get some beers before the night is through. Ooooh Haaaaa!" I shouted over them getting a bunch of yes sir's and ooh haa's out of em.
"Bravo team move out." Just as command says that we hear a gun shot. Time slows down and i'm being pushed by Alex to the ground. I look up to see him staring at me. HIs breathing is slowing down as he falls to his knee's.
