In this thrilling short story by Katherine Anne, a young man is forced to atone for the murder of his mother. He's been rotting in a London prison for the past five years. Now that he's come of age, it's time for him to pay up. It's a life for a life, but can this daring teen escape execution with the knowledge of what really happened on the night of his mother's death? Or will he die like the killer he claims he's not?

This book had previously been available at all eBook retailers, but I decided to take it down and offer it here on WattPad and on my Books Amino page. This story will be republished if I so choose and if it gains the favour of you the readers. Thank you all for your support.

Eleven short stories, posted one story at a time: Two little girls, in two different eras, yearning for their parents. A shy girl in a new country. An uncertain woman dancing back into life after the death of a spouse. A thrilling short short. Mother and son argue over what is dignity, what value her life. A creepy little short that won an honourable mention in the Hart House Short Story Contest. The bureaucrat and his ever-so-busy day. A party that glitters and excludes ones who don't fit. A daughter rebels. A mother and her youngest, a conflict without end, that only death can solve? Murder stalks the homeless in Toronto's innocent streets. I hope you enjoy these stories! The ePub and Kindle versions include a bonus romance, written in 1919 by my grandmother, about two people who have to face danger to find each other. There's a story in that: My mother’s sister and mother liked to write poetry. My mother’s mother was a stellar speller and a killer Scrabble player. But I had no idea until recently that as an adolescent she had written and submitted stories for publication. I don’t think her queries were successful. And it wasn’t long before she got married and started riding the Wall of Death as a living with her husband. And so in honour of that century-ago effort of hers, I reproduced in the ePub, as she typed it errors and all (or what I suppose to be errors as grammar is different between countries and eras), the story my mother – her daughter – found recently in an old envelope postmarked from London 6:15 pm 23 SP 19 (23 September 1919) to Miss D. Do paranormal things, witches and magic exist? There are gifts that are waiting to be discovered. The mythical power is just waiting beyond the deepest darkest tunnel of the unknown. Only the brave learns to test the waters amidst the labyrinth of its knotted mystery. PLEASE, NO PLAGIARISM. (~Created July 6, 2018:Finished August 5, 2018~) Being engrossed in studying his current case detained him from leaving at once until he forgot the time. He never mentioned to Hera that he's going home after two decades. Only his youngest child knows of his trip back home. Whether he believes in curse or not. It's his 45th birthday tomorrow and he must be home to keep his promise to his mother. His family had never forsaken him, he did. He'd been ignoring their summons since he turned his back from them. Perhaps it's time to grant their plea. He closes his office and walks to the elevator. "Good evening, Artemis." The man in a black jacket greets him. Artemis smiles at the stranger. "Do I know you?" The stranger puts his arm around the stunned lawyer. Behind the unknown man's dark glasses are bloodshot eyes ready to scare the wits out of his prey. "Your mother does. She's expecting me to greet you happy birthday." Removing his dark glasses, he stares at his victim to corrupt his eyes. Insurmountable fear assaults Artemis as excruciating pain drills on his eyeballs. A horrible scream slits through the silence of the night when the clock strikes twelve. As the elevator opens, the stranger loosens his grip and the victim falls on the floor. Covering his bleeding eyes, Artemis winces from severe pain. The man whistles away as he walks past the dead body of the security guard in the lobby to the snowy road outside the building. His victim crawls out of the closing elevator. The curse is true. He must get into his car before his sight totally leaves him. He must warn his family. " I must save Athena!"
